Try to think in terms of, “Is this idea effective as regards ensuring my future survival, the survival of my offspring, the next generation and the next. Will this ensure the continuing success of my country and it increasing successfulness into the future.” It will help you to be able to think clearly if you can remove fear of the Sword of Political Correctness from your mind when thinking. 2. Actualy, Shereen you have a point. It’s not been easy to attract suitably qualified female bloggers for Talking Philosophy. We have tried – for example, we’ve posted a call for bloggers to the professional philosophy mailing lists – but we’ve had very little response.

The magazine does have a mix of contributors, but the blog… not so much. It’s unfortunate. It is time to make another attempt to widen the demographic of our bloggers.

  3. Hi Jeremy,
Thanks for your response, by suitably qualified what do you mean? I am currently finishing my UG as a mature student. However the department i am completing it in has quite a few suitable qualified female representatives. To whom would they contact if i approached them with this problem?

  4. I have emailed my head of philosophy Kathleen Stock, to forward this on to other female philosophers who would be suitably qualified and who may wish to partake. I have forwarded on your site page, which has your contact details. As i see you are the website designer and editor.

  5. Thanks Shereen, appreciated. You’ll be pleased to hear that as a result of your promptings, I’ve already managed to find a new woman philosopher blogger for the site. We do need more, though.

  6. Welcome. Maybe it would be worth, if you do not already, posting calls every few months. If you have the time, there is also emailing heads of philosophy departments at universities to forward requests to female philosophers.

I have just realised that the UK office, in Tring, is down the road from my mothers house.
Do you offer any sort of work experience?

Apologies for this bit of list-management clutter:

I tried to sign up for ‘notify me of follow up comments by email’ as I made a comment on this blog.

Unfortunately, that sends me a email that says: ‘click on this link if you want to be notified’. Thus one is required to have a mailer that does link forwarding, and to have that feature turned on. Many people and institutions turn this feature off. Other people are required, or instead prefer to read their mail, not on their local machine but on a remote, office machine. Link following is problematic, there as well.

The usual way to handle such people is to include in your confirmation mail, the exact url they can paste into their own webbrowsers, if the follow-to link is not working. If you added it, I would use it and could receive notifications by email.

Thank you for listening, and for a very interesting blog.

  8. I do not know what you are rambling on about. My apologies if that sounds offensive. It was not intension to be so. Some wires somewhere have been crossed and I have been sent undecipherable text. Try sending me a Rosetta Stone.

    Regards

    Dr Paul

  9. Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.

I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely
off topic but I had to tell someone!

  10. My spouse and I stumbled over here coming from a different web page and thought I should check things out.
I like what I see so i am just following you. Look forward to exploring
your web page for a second time.
